When a furnace stops working in a Toronto winter, it is not a problem that can wait until next week. GTA Home Comfort is a local, owner-operated HVAC business based in Scarborough. We repair gas furnaces across Scarborough, Toronto, East York, North York, Markham, Pickering and Ajax, with 24/7 emergency service when the heat goes out.
Every repair starts with a proper diagnosis. We find out why the furnace failed, not just what to replace, so the same problem does not come back a week later. You get a clear explanation and your options before any work begins.
Signs your furnace needs repair
- No heat, or the furnace runs but the air from the vents is cold
- The furnace turns on and off every few minutes (short cycling)
- Banging, squealing, rattling or grinding noises
- The igniter clicks but the burners never light
- Some rooms are much colder than others
- Heating bills have jumped without a change in how you use the heat
- The thermostat is set correctly but the house never reaches temperature
- A yellow or flickering burner flame instead of a steady blue one
Common furnace problems we fix
Most no-heat calls come down to a handful of parts: a failed hot surface igniter, a dirty or faulty flame sensor, a blocked condensate drain or trap on high-efficiency furnaces, a pressure switch or inducer motor fault, a worn blower motor or capacitor, or a control board error. Clogged filters and blocked intake or exhaust vents, especially after heavy snow, cause many more.
We carry common parts so many repairs are finished on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you how long it will take and make sure the house is safe in the meantime.
Safety first: gas and carbon monoxide
If you smell gas, leave the house and call Enbridge Gas or 911 from outside before calling us. If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call 911.
Gas appliance work in Ontario must be done by a TSSA-registered contractor. GTA Home Comfort is TSSA-licensed (#000396913), and every furnace repair includes a check of venting, combustion and safety controls.
Repair or replace?
A repair is usually the right call for a furnace that is under about 15 years old and otherwise in good shape. If your furnace is older, needs repairs every season, or the repair would cost a large share of a new unit, we will tell you honestly and walk you through both options. The decision is yours.
