Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a furnace repair cost?

We use a "Flat Rate" pricing model, which is better for you than hourly billing. Instead of watching the clock tick while a technician works, we diagnose the issue first and give you a firm, upfront price for the total repair. You know exactly what you will pay before we pick up a wrench—no surprises.

How much does a new furnace cost in Toronto?

The cost of a new furnace varies based on the size of your home and the efficiency rating (AFUE) of the unit. Generally, a high-efficiency installation ranges between $3,500 and $6,000. This price includes the unit, professional installation, sheet metal work, and removal of your old equipment. We provide free in-home quotes to give you an exact price down to the penny.

Is there a fee for the service call/diagnostic?

Yes, we charge a flat diagnostic fee to send a licensed TSSA technician to your home. This covers their travel time and the testing required to identify the root cause of the problem. Once diagnosed, we provide a firm, flat-rate quote for the repair. If you choose to go ahead with the repair, you know exactly what the final bill will be—no hourly clock ticking.

What does it mean if my furnace was "Red Tagged"?

A "Red Tag" from Enbridge or a technician means a safety hazard was found. Type A Tag: Immediate danger (gas leak/CO). Gas is shut off immediately. Type B Tag: A violation exists but isn't immediate danger. You have a specific time frame (usually 30 days) to fix it. GTA Home Comfort is fully licensed to clear both Type A and Type B tags. We fix the issue and submit the clearance paperwork to Enbridge to restore your service.

Should I repair my old furnace or replace it?

We follow the "50% Rule." If your furnace is over 15 years old and the repair costs more than 50% of the price of a new unit, replacement is usually the smarter financial choice. Older units also consume more gas. However, if your unit is under 10 years old, a repair is almost always the right path. We will never pressure you into a replacement you don't need.

Are your technicians licensed?

Absolutely. Every technician at GTA Home Comfort is a TSSA-licensed Gas Fitter (G2 or G1). We are fully insured and WSIB compliant. We treat your home with respect, which means using drop cloths and shoe covers to keep your floors clean during the job.
