Many older homes in East York, the Danforth, Leslieville and Scarborough are heated with hot water: a boiler in the basement and radiators or in-floor tubing upstairs. GTA Home Comfort is a local, owner-operated HVAC business based in Scarborough, installing high-efficiency boilers and combi boilers across Scarborough, Toronto, East York, North York, Markham, Pickering and Ajax.
A new boiler is a big decision, and hot water systems vary more than forced-air ones. We look at your whole system, not just the box in the basement, before recommending anything.
When it is time to replace your boiler
- Your boiler is 20 years old or more, or parts are getting hard to find
- Repairs are needed every heating season
- Some radiators stay cold while others are hot
- You hear banging, gurgling or kettling noises from the boiler or pipes
- There are leaks, rust or water around the boiler
- Gas bills keep climbing even though your usage has not changed
- You want to free up space by combining heating and hot water in one unit
Boiler or combi boiler?
A heating-only boiler heats the water that runs through your radiators or floors. A combi boiler does that and also heats your domestic hot water on demand, so it can replace a separate water heater or rental tank and free up space in the basement.
Which one suits you depends on the size of your home, how many bathrooms you have and how much hot water you use at once. We will explain the trade-offs plainly so you can choose what fits your household.
How we size and install a boiler
Older boilers were often oversized, and a modern condensing boiler works best when it is matched to the house. We look at your home’s heat loss, the number and size of your radiators or floor zones, and your existing piping and venting before recommending a size.
Installation covers removing the old boiler, setting the new one, connecting the gas, piping, venting and condensate drain, and filling, purging and balancing the system. We test the controls and safety devices, then show you how the new boiler and thermostat work.
Licensed, local and accountable
Gas appliance installation in Ontario must be done by a TSSA-registered contractor. GTA Home Comfort is TSSA-licensed (#000396913). We are a local business, so the technician who installs your boiler is the one you call if you ever need help with it.
